A statement by the unit director

The Crisis and Disaster Management at the Faculty of art education reflects the scientific approach anticipated by the faculty, which is based on good forecasting to predict various crises in their different forms, sizes, and times, understanding the sudden situations the faculty may face, determining the roles and tasks for all unit members, and then the rapid response that accompanies the crisis or disaster and dealing with it.











Vision and mission

The unit’s vision:

An effective management to achieve the highest levels of security and safety in the faculty's work environment against potential crises and disasters, ensuring stability and security.

The unit’s mission:

Preparing a model unit and a qualified team to manage crises and disasters at the faculty that affect the educational process in all its aspects and implementing plans to confront crises and disasters and mitigate risks.











The Unit’s Objectives

  • Supporting the educational process and monitoring the qualification of the faculty's work system to meet the requirements and standards of the National Authority for Accreditation.
  • Achieving the vision and mission of the faculty and its strategic goals by ensuring the quality of educational, research, and community activities.
  • Measuring performance indicators for faculty members and their assistants, staff, students, and graduates to achieve the highest level of effectiveness and efficiency through specific criteria-based mechanisms.
  • Spreading the culture of quality and its associated principles, values, and methods of application among faculty members, students, and the administrative structure of the faculty.
  • Designing the necessary evaluation tools and preparing them, so that they include evaluation mechanisms, standardization, and procedural steps.
  • Exchange experiences and ideas related to the development of university education with similar quality units at the university, Egyptian and regional universities, and international universities.

The tasks of the committees of the Crisis and Disaster Management Unit and their responsibilities

 

Training Committee: 

  • Developing necessary training programs according to the needs to train members of the faculty community (students, administrators, faculty members and their assistants, technicians, workers) on implementing the plans set to face crises and disasters, measuring their effectiveness, and raising their awareness on how to deal with them.
  • Periodically training the unit's executive team members to develop their skills and capabilities in this field.
  • Preparing educational seminars, lectures, and workshops to raise awareness about safety and security matters.
  • Communicating with the Center for Capacity Development and Continuous Training and the Center for Quality Assurance at the university to implement the proposed training programs and workshops.
  • Conducting evacuation drills periodically (every semester) after identifying and reviewing the safety of designated exits in each building of the faculty.

 

Committee for Preparing the Executive Plan for Security and Safety and Developing Crisis Management Scenarios:

  • Preparing the internal regulations for the unit's work, including reviewing the vision, mission, and strategic objectives of the unit, as well as forming the organizational structure and subcommittees affiliated with the unit and their tasks.
  • Preparing the executive plan for security and safety specific to the faculty for 2015 – 2020.
  • Developing the necessary plans and scenarios to deal with crises and disasters related to individuals "fights – demonstrations – student sit-ins – immoral behaviors such as drug use or in facilities "building collapses – elevator malfunctions or falls – electric shocks and exposed wires – fires – water leaks and plumbing or drainage malfunctions – vandalism ....".
  • Preparing an illustrative diagram of the faculty facilities and buildings, including the sewage, water, electricity, gas, and telephone networks.

  • Ensuring the availability and adequacy of security and safety measures at the faculty (buildings, lecture halls, laboratories, etc.) To deal with crises and disasters, sense risks, and coordinate with the faculty and university administration to minimize the occurrence of crises.
  • Establish clear, documented, and announced mechanisms for regular monitoring to implement the unit's plan according to a specified and announced timeline.
  • Monitoring the periodic maintenance and the functionality of alarm systems, fire extinguishers, and firefighting equipment.
  • Preparing periodic reports on the activities carried out by the unit in light of the approved executive plan and submitting them to Prof. Dr. the Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development to present to the Faculty Council.

 

Performance Measurement and Evaluation Committee of the Unit:

  • Reviewing and evaluating training plans.
  • Analyzing the environment surrounding the faculty, identifying opportunities to benefit from it, and utilizing its potential in addressing disasters and crises if they occur within the faculty.
  • Preparing a database for all forms and surveys evaluating the unit's activities by beneficiaries immediately after the activity and utilizing the feedback to develop and improve the unit's performance in collaboration with the faculty's measurement and evaluation unit.
  • Reviewing and evaluating the executive plan regarding crisis and disaster management.

 

Publication and Media Committee:

  • Designing the necessary promotional materials to introduce the unit's activities and ways to act during crises and disasters, including a student guide.
  • Disseminating security and safety guidelines and posters (on bulletin boards, in classrooms, laboratories, library, etc.) And guidelines for identifying exits in each building at the faculty with the aim of raising awareness to face various crises and disasters.
  • Field recording of evacuation drills and documentation of all unit activities.
  • Objective media coverage and informing various media outlets about the crisis or disaster facing the faculty to prevent the spread of rumors.
