The Department’s Philosophy

The Department of Art Criticism and Appreciation is one of the academic programs offered by the Faculty of Art Education. It is a comprehensive department that studies art sciences, politics, and philosophy, including art issues, the connection between visual and verbal knowledge, creative and critical activities, and the growth of artistic knowledge. This department aims to develop the ability to recognize aesthetic dignity, identify the source of value and derive it from the elements of the universe around us, and issue judgments about the value of artwork and its structural systems, meanings, and interpretive connotations through contemplation, interpretation, and the elevation of human sensitivity. The Department of Art Criticism and Appreciation is the primary facilitator of aesthetic behavior, beginning with the study of the aesthetics of art and its cultural sciences. This focus includes the study of artistic information and concepts that describe, interpret, and analyze artworks, including the arts of civilizations, contemporary artists, and their developments, both locally and globally. It also provides the knowledge required to understand the aesthetics of artwork, the style, treatment, technique, and difficulties encountered by artists.
