Mission of the Department of Art Education and Folk Heritage

Message from the Department of Art Education and Folk Heritage

Establishing the aesthetic, cultural, and scientific aspects in the fields of plastic arts, as well as the educational role based on the freedom of creative thought and performance without restrictions through practice and experimentation with materials, considering them a source of intellectual and civilizational radiance to achieve the desired connection between them and local community institutions, in addition to enriching experimental creative thought. Artistic products, with their aesthetics and formative values, help enrich the visual perception of all social classes in general, spread artistic and cultural awareness, contribute to eradicating artistic illiteracy, and promote a positive attitude towards contemporary environmental issues.

Philosophy of the Department of Art Education and Folk Heritage

The department contributes with its five artistic fields to preparing students for both undergraduate and graduate levels to become artist-educators using artistic and educational methods, developing knowledge, skills, and attitudes, and enhancing students' awareness and understanding of future challenges through programs and the study of various courses and the preparation of research in the five diverse artistic fields (artwork, metalwork, woodwork, printing, and hand weaving), in line with the contemporary vision and philosophy of art education. Which primarily relies on a heritage study of folk arts, crafts, and traditional industries from a contemporary perspective that meets the demands of daily life with modern technology. The diversity in studying these fields with their craft and industrial origins allows students to express themselves using multiple materials within a single work. Additionally, it involves the use of materials, methods, techniques, and artistic treatments with skillful use of hand tools and instruments that facilitate innovative expression without hindrance, opening new horizons for cultural inputs, achieving aesthetic and functional values that align with the nature of the era, and meeting the requirements of sustainable development.

The study of popular heritage (both Egyptian and human) through practice and experimentation with materials within the department works to achieve more solutions to the formal problems that students may encounter. This is done within a complex intellectual framework that leads to the development of the creative process and engagement in experimental practices that address social and environmental issues and foster a sense of citizenship at the national, regional, and global levels.
